Therapy Options
We offer a range of services to suit your child's needsAssessments
The length of time and cost for assessment will vary depending on your concerns, your child’s age and the areas requiring assessment. Assessments generally range from 1 hour to 3 hours. Longer assessments are typically completed over 2-3 appointments.
The aim of assessment is to explore your child’s unique set of strengths and challenges. This is important so that therapy, if required, is targeted, effective and efficient. It is also important to be able to monitor and review your child’s progress so we can be sure therapy is helping your child improve in the areas identified. Following your child’s assessment, a written report will be provided, results will be explained and ideas given to assist your child to develop skills in the areas identified.
Initial Consultations
A full assessment is not required if your child has been seen by another speech pathologist in the last 6 months, and you have a written report you can provide to guide treatment. An initial consultation will include any brief screening assessments required to gather additional information, as well as discussion with parents/carers, and goal setting for therapy.
Therapy
Therapy sessions are typically weekly or fortnightly, and duration can be 30 minutes, 45 minutes or 60 minutes.
The decision regarding frequency and duration of sessions, as well as how many sessions will be required, is informed by the best available evidence concerning the treatment your child requires, your child’s strengths and needs, and your capacity as a family. We will work with you to achieve the best outcomes possible based on these factors.
A therapy plan will be discussed at the outset, and goals set in collaboration with you, and if appropriate, other key people in your child’s life (eg. educational staff).
